1

I left my fears
under the fall leaves.
Had soil worked
its elemental magic-
of Musk and moss,
Bitter and wet,
Rock and sand,
Ice and wind,
the once red and yellow
markers of now or never,
shouldn’t reappear
whole
as springs melts.

But they do.

Unchanged.
