The Works of Alfred Lord Tennyson
Macmillan and Co., London 1884
A heavy book.
Green cloth bound hardback book, antique edition. Gilt title to spine. Bumping to extremities of spine and boards.
Loose pages to front of book, damage repaired by sellotape by previous owner. Text block remains tight aside from these initial loose pages.
'I am half sick of shadows'... escape to Tennyson's Camelot where willows trail their leaves in the river, barges get pulled upstream by heavy hooved horses, page boys sing as they walk past and Sir Lancelot gallops by, sunlight glinting off his armour, reflected in the magic mirror and attracting the attention of the Lady of Shallott, attracting her to her doom....Antique collection of the works of Tennyson from 1884. Initial pages up to contents listing were loose and someone has successfully sellotaped them into place, see photos. This doesn't impact on the text itself as the damage is only to end pages and initial chapter pages. The rest of the book is in tight readable condition. Contains Idylls of the King, The Lady of Shalot, Enoch Arden, In Memoriam, The Princess, Sonnets, Translations, Ballads, English Idylls, Juvenalia, To the Queen, Experiments, Maud, The Window, Harold, Queen Mary, etc. Pages have been roughly cut. Alfred Tennyson, first Baron Tennyson, F. R. S. (6 August 1809 - 6 October 1892) was Poet Laureate of Great Britain and Ireland during much of the reign of Queen Victoria and has a legacy as one of the most popular Poets. This is an amazing collection and a great edition of Tennyson's Works in one volume. popular
