French popular antique Mary plaster statue, Madonna child, vintage 1930's plaster figure head pastel colors free standing figure Lourdes memorabilia

A beautiful free standing vintage French statue of Mary. It is a chalkware plaster type item, covered in sublime timeworn hand painted colors in turquoise and green.

It has a certain charm due to it's wear, so would only be for people who appreciate authenticity and shabby chic. This item has definitely seen some life, but has a quality that is impossible to replicate in a more modern item. It has no cracks or repairs, however the surface is slightly worn and scratched throughout, with surface chips and nibbles, notibly one on her face. (Please study the photos close up).

Given where I found the item, at a Brocante just south of Bordeaux, it popular probably originated form Lourdes, about a 3 hour drive away. We live directly on the Camino de Santiago, and frequently have religious pilgrims passing our front door on their long trek across the Pyrenees to Santiago de Compostella. There is a wealth of antique religious memorabilia which is available locally in the antique shops and brocantes celebrating this ancient pilgrim route.

She sits firmly free standing on a flat surface.

It is approximately 80 years old, and is quite weathered and time worn, the paint still completely intact only in certain areas. I have given it a quick buff to remove the dust, but it would benefit from a thorough cleaning, (although this may remove some more of the color so would need to be done with care.)
