Both copies feature an ink inscription and stamp of a 'Reginald H. Warren'.

The 'Chambers Dictionary' was first published in 1872 by William and Robert Chambers as 'Chambers's English Dictionary', followed in 1901 by a new compact edition called 'Chambers's Twentieth Century Dictionary'. Widely used by British crossword solvers and setters and Scrabble players, this dictionary contains more dialectal, archaic, unconventional and eccentric words than its rivals, and is often noted for its occasional wryly humorous definitions.

'Cassell's Complete Book of Sports and Pastimes' is a charming and entertaining instructional and reference work on both outdoor and indoor recreational amusements. The work is profusely illustrated throughout with more than nine hundred illustrations. Condition Report: Rebound in a half crushed morocco binding with marbled paper boards. Externally, slight shelf wear to extremities. Hinges reinforced. Lacking title page to Dictionary'. Internally firmly bound. Half title page to 'Sports' slightly detached to head of gutter, but firm. Pages age toned but clean and bright. The odd spot and handling mark to the occasional page, 'Dictionary'. Scattered spotting to popular first and last few pages 'Sports' with light scattered spotting to the fore edge of the very occasional page. Prior owner's ink inscription and stamp to half title page 'Sports', and Preface 'Dictionary'. Prior owner's ink marking to contents, 'Sports'. Overall: Very Good
