This Tibetan mandala Thangka art is an original piece painted by a modern day Thangka master(Lama), The Lama train for a minimum of 15 years under masters before them learning the skill, philosophy and wisdom behind Thangka art practices, only then after 15 years and if they prosper in their skill do they reach titled lama status. It is strictly forbidden to sign Thangka art until lama status is reached. Cultural roots is honoured to represent and assist the traditional Thangka art school in Kathmandu by offering affordable original paintings worked on for many, many days by both masters in popular Tibet and students of different levels.

Mandala (literally meaning a circle) is a visual guide for concentration and introversive meditation. It can lead one on a path to attainment of insights and activation of supernatural forces (Siddhi). The Mandala is the graphic representation of this process. It is not only theatrical but also practical as an operational system that involves a clear plan for realisation of oneself.

Generally, mandala is sketched inside a circle. There are four types of circles, a flame, cremation, the wind and the lotus flower.

The flame of burning fire is the sign leading to destroying impurity and the unacknowledged contained within us.
The circle of cremation is where in some examples the people are bitten by wind energy's such as a flower called Padmavati which is the sign of cleanliness and purity.
The circle of wind (sometimes symbolised by the vajra) is the sign of knowledge or enlightenment and the difficulties and challenges one must overcome to reach a state of being.
After crossing the three circles the square room can be navigated and one can reach their balanced inner harmony and affirmed connection with nature and the cosmos ...their spiritual temple.

In conclusion, it can be said that a man who can avoid anger, desire, greed, pride and jealousy will succeed in entering the centre of the mandala, a place of purity, wisdom and authentic being ...Nirvana!

Traditionally, Thangka paintings are not only valued for their aesthetic beauty, but primarily for their use as aids in meditation practices. Practitioners use Thangkas to develop a clear visualisation of a particular deity, strengthening their concentration, and forging a link between themselves and the deity. Historically, Thangkas were also used as teaching tools to convey the lives of various masters. A teacher or lama would travel around giving talks on dharma, carrying with him large Thangka scrolls to illustrate his stories.
