Pretty Antique English Staffordshire Cottage Pastille/ incense burner. Victorian Shabby Chic Pottery Figurine with dogs by the door! 19th century Staffordshire porcelain ‘Cottage' pastille burner with an ornate blue tiled roof and an orange door. It has a pair of iconic staffordshire spaniel dogs on each side of the door. The cottage has pierced chimney/dove cote to allow incense to be burned.
Prior to the introduction of modern sanitation systems, these delightful ornaments, now widely sought after by collectors, performed a useful, indeed most valuable function. A perfumed cachou would have been lit and placed inside the cottage and the incense served to freshen and sweeten the air in the room.

Dimensions:
15 cm high x 12 cm across x 10 cm front to back.

The condition is very good considering its 150 years! There is one chip to the paint on the underside of the roof and some crazing which is part of the Staffordshire flatback look. Please look carefully at the pics.

This beautiful piece of iconic pottery would look good in any home and make a fabulous incense burner!
