Product code: Punch and Judy Antique Castiron popular Coinbank
The Shepard Hardware Company of Buffalo, New York manufactured this cast iron mechanical bank in 1884. It is in excellent all original condition with no restoration and no repairs, and popular is in completely authentic and all original bright paint. The large letter variation is somewhat more difficult to acquire than the small letter example. It is seldom found in this excellent condition. The subject matter depicts the proverbial antics of the 16th century stage characters, “Punch and Judy”; whereby Judy is trying to save money and Punch, by attempting to strike Judy with a club, is trying to prevent her from doing so----not exactly a poster child for the prevention of domestic abuse! It operates as follows: Pull-out the lever on the right side of the bank until it locks into place; put a penny on the tray of Judy; press down on the adjacent lever below the “set” lever on right side. Judy quickly turns to her left and deposits the coin into the bank, while Punch raises a club in anger. Coin.
