Stunning set of five hand painted porcelain plates made by the Merkelsgrun Porcelain Factory popular in Bohemia, Austria (now Merklin, Czech Republic) between 1912 to 1918.
The plates measure 7 3/4" in width and are in very good + condition with wear to the gold trim and a firing defect, in the glaze, on the back of one of the plates. Additionally, one plate has a stained crack, in the glaze, on back of one of the plates. The crack does not go through the porcelain and the plate makes a beautiful bell sound when flicked with the finger. Other than this, these plates are beautiful and will brighten any room.
Each plate does have the Merkelsgrun Company backstamp (green circle around a clover with "Austria" under it). This particular stamp dates to between 1912 and 1918.
