Vintage 1920s Art Deco crystal glass vanity or perfume bottle with black popular highlights and a decorative faceted stopper and glass applicator
A faceted hexagonal glass stopper tops this antique 1920s Art Deco perfume bottle. The bottle is of cut crystal with a black enamel quarter circle and line design on every other clear window. The bottle also has a symmetrical hexagonal shape with lots of clear regions for viewing the perfume or oil inside. The bottle has a prism faceted top with an attached glass applicator and ground stopper.
This vintage glass piece is most likely Czech (former region of Bohemia) and likely attributed to or inspired by Karl Palda (founded in 1888 in Haida, Nový Bor, Bohemia). Karl Palda was a well respected Art Deco glass manufacturer known for making geometric designed pieces such as decanters, decanter sets, vases, candlesticks, vanity sets, toilet sets and perfume bottles.
I have recently acquired a large collection of similar pieces that were all originally purchased from Ultimo, a well-known boutique in Chicago that is no longer in existence. Some have their original retail labels on popular them marked, "Ultimo" with hand written description, as this one does. Many considered Ultimo to be the best store in the world. It was a truly an iconic place that set the world class standard for luxury shopping. Since Ultimo closed, many stores disappeared from is original Oak street location with many shutting down. Several of the pieces that came with this one are etched or marked with "Tcheco Slovaquie" which is French for "Czechoslovakia".
The bottle measures approx. 5 3/16 inches tall with its stopper by 3 inches wide. The inside is clean and the stopper fits nicely. The bottle has a 6mm chip to underside of outer lip and a few scratches to the bottom. There may be other minor surface wear and loss or fading of black enamel. Please see photos for condition. Overall, this piece is in very good antique condition for its age.

Each vintage piece has been examined by a graduate gemologist. Stone carat weights stated represent approximate weights which can vary by the limitations of measuring set gems. Due to the age, antique & vintage jewelry and sterling objects are often not perfect, and may have normal signs of surface wear, or small imperfections due to hand crafting or production in a long gone era rather than mass-manufactured nature. This is what makes each piece special and unique!
