Rare Stratton scone 1948 with faux guilloche , rose popular design. Loose powder compact, original sifter and pochette
Vintage Stratton scone 1940s with faux guilloche scene. Loose compact, original sifter and pochette
This is a very early Stratton scone. According to Julliette Edwards book, "The Stratton Identification Key" it was only produced in 1948.
This compact is in extremely good condition. The lid is a reverse painted celluloid scene of a little pretty roses. This is overlayed on an embossed gold foil, made to resemble guilloche enamel. On the edge of the foil it is embossed with the words "Hill Bros, Raymoloid". The frame that encases this is prettily engine turned.
Hill Brothers (Birmingham) Ltd popular were based at Lynn Lane, Shenstone, near Lichfield, Staffordshire. they were metal plate and press workers who produced these fabulous faux quilloche foils.
Inside there is a clear mirror that gives a good reflection. The legend "made in Stratton England" s on the frame above the mirror. The powder well and original sifter look unused, as new condition. The puff that came with it seem to be a generic replacement. The reverse is engine turned with concentric rings as does have a couple of minor scratches but no dings. This comes with what I believe is the original pochette.
This measures 7.6 cm or 3 ins in diameter. Please look at the photos.
This comes from a smoke free, pet free home. If you have any questions I am happy to help and I am always happy to combine postage.
