The first trade edition of this work, in the original unclipped dust wrapper.In 1924, Lawrence enlisted in the British Royal Air Force under the assumed name 352087 Ross, as an ordinary aircraftman. This volume comprises his memoirs during that time, written in a diary he kept to record the lives of enlisted men. The book was left unpublished until after the author's death at his own wish, due to the people mentioned in the writings. The work was edited by Lawrence's brother who ensured that new names were used for certain people. Though noted as flawed by critics, this work is notable for its sharp observation and the insight it gives into Lawrence as a person, and for the censorship issues around its publication.
