A mental construct that was banned from the fields of abstract expressionist paintings was the use of perspective.There were many things from the natural world that they wanted to get away from and run inwards, to themselves.I call myself an abstract expressionist, not because I subscribe to the same ideologies, but because of the other 'experts' and their desire to reach for something they recognize to label my work as such and still feel validated in their expertise.I don't contribute nor contributed to the movement. I wasn't alive.
However, a fun thought exercise was this illustration. The way the swirls explode from a point of origin and then fly towards the viewer, and later out of frame at the last minute, is very much suggestive of perspective. Mon dieu!
So you can see how antithetical this monotype reprint becomes the popular more you observe it.
