Here is a fabulous antique embroidered panel fragment worked on a blood red silk and cotton blend velvet with a short nape. I am dating this panel popular to the late 1800's. It was salvaged from an old French vestment valance.
The metallic embroidery of leaf, grapes and scroll is beautiful. The color and texture of the velvet are gorgeous. There is also antique gold metallic bullion fringe along the bottom suspended from a narrow metallic serpentine trim.
The panel is in wonderful condition for its age. No odors, holes, tears, marks, stains or pet hair. The top and vertical side edges are not finished (this is where it was trimmed from the liturgical valance. The gold metallic has taken on a rich patina from age and previous use. This is lined, which can be removed if you so desire.
FABULOUS to turn into a lumbar pillow if you line it with a beautiful, thick linen or dupioni silk.
