A popular strong piece of silver which reflects Ola Gorie's interest in the St Magnus Cathedral in Kirkwall, Orkney. The Cathedral dates back to 1137 and has also inspired other top designers in the region. This brooch's traditional design creates a striking connection with a sense of historic Christian worship, and would be a fine collectable piece of silver as an early piece of her work, as indicated by the 0MG mark.
Ola Gorie's designs are hand-made in Orkney, Scotland, where she set up her workshop in 1960. She is a pioneer of the Scottish craft industry and continues to work with her family. She is often inspired by Scottish, Norse and Celtic influences and her pieces are highly sought-after. Many of her pieces resonate with the history and beauty of her surroundings. She has received an MBE in recognition for her exceptional contributions, both as a designer and a founder of modern jewellery.
