The Ring is Size 61/2 and measures approximately 1 1/4" popular inch long. The freeform faceted cut Pietersite Gemstone measures approximately 3/4" inches long and 13/16" inches wide. It weights 8.5 grams and is marked 925 on the Sterling Silver Band.
Pietersite, known as the Tempest Stone, is a member of the Quartz family. As far as Pietersite's spiritual meaning, the stone connects it to Freya, the revered Norse goddess of love, beauty, and fertility.
This mineral was recently discovered in 1964 by Sid Pieters, who named it after his late father, Louis Pieters. This stone is very rare and only has two known localities, with only one of them still being active. In the 1990's a small pocket was exposed in the Hunan Province of China, but was closed a few years later due to the mineral being mined out. The only other known locality is in Namibia, where Sid Peters found the stone over 55 years ago.
