Authentic 1-5/8" popular Silver Wrapped Sharktooth Hill Fossil Necklace with Brown Carved Horn, Wood, Metal Accents & Sterling Silver Hook Clasp
The centerpiece of this beautiful, hand-crafted necklace is a genuine 1 5/8" Isurus Planus (Hook Tooth Mako) upper jaw tooth from the famous Sharktooth Hill area. These rare teeth are highly sought after by collectors for their variety of colors and are excavated from the Round Mountain Silt Formation near Bakersfield California. The unique colors are formed when the minerals in the soil of that area seep into the fossilizing tooth. The unusual colorings of this tooth makes it even more rare. It has a creamy beige base with a hint of orange. It is from the Miocene age and is around 15-16 million years old. It has not been repaired or restored, these are the natural colors due to fossilization.
It is wire wrapped with 20 gauge soft popular sterling silver wire and strung on nylon coated stainless steel wire with 11mmx19mm carved jade accents, sterling silver Bali accents, carved horn square tubes, wood cylinder beads and carved metal accents. The necklace is 20" long and finished with an etched sterling silver toggle clasp.
Since the Sharktooth Hill teeth are excavated from sandstone rock formations, the roots can sometimes be fragile. I do not advise getting them wet as this can cause discoloration and breakage. The enamel on the tooth is much stronger and will not lose it's color. The root on this tooth is near perfect.
All my necklaces have genuine arrow points and fossil shark teeth. I do not use any modern points or use teeth from present-day animals. I will always supply information from where the teeth and arrowheads were recovered as this truly makes these necklaces one of a kind.
