Real Pressed Flower Oriental Hellebore Lenten Rose Botanical popular Art Herbarium 15x19

A real pressed flower botanical art herbarium of an Oriental hybrid hellebore, commonly known as the Lenten Rose, is pictured. The name Lenten Rose was given because they bloom around the beginning of Lent. This evergreen perennial begins blooming in my shade gardens in February, even when surrounded by snow. Give it a bit of sun and it rises to the occasion. It continues blooming throughout May and forms huge clumps of foliage out of which dozens of these blooms rise. The Hellebores in my shade garden are pretty tall and bushy and produce 15" stems such as the one in this botanical. There are five opened blooms with an average diameter of 2.5". They are a striated maroon and cream with three having prominent yellow stamens while the remaining two have developed seed pods. There is also an unopened bud. The outside dimensions of the flower grouping is approximately 11x14.

The mat in which this botanical is photographed measures 16x20 and has a mat opening of 10.5 x 13.5." The botanical is only available without a mat.

This large botanical is lovely as a specimen piece but also displays wonderfully with other botanicals in the shop. Although treated against causes of degradation, real pressed botanicals remain delicate. It is strongly recommended that UV-protective glass be used in framing and that the botanicals be displayed away from direct sunlight, strong artificial light and moisture.
