Show your garden some love with this adorable verdigris bronze/ resin hippo yard art with. This rustic garden decor is very eye catching and will look fantastic as it amusingly emerges from your patio! My hippos also make a very unique new home gift, or for any special occasion you can think of!

The bronze sculpture measures approx L 42cm x W 17.5cm x H 6.5cm and is hollow cast making this a solid looking, but light weight (approx 1.5 kg) garden ornament, so you can easily move it around when mowing your lawn.

How It's Made:
I cast my resin / bronze hippos using the “cold cast bronze” method. Instead of using molten bronze, real bronze powder is mixed with resin and is then cast by hand in to a mould to produce a piece that looks pretty much identical to traditionally cast bronze sculptures at a fraction of the weight and price!

After I remove the hippo garden ornament from the mould, I then buff and polish it by hand to bring the bronze to a shine. I then apply a verdigris patina solution to the ornament which reacts with the bronze to produce a lovely aged verdigris green patina. The patina is left unsealed so that it can continue to develop over time and is what is know as a “living patina”.

The resulting piece is very durable and weather resistant so you can display it outdoors all year round and it should last for many many years in your garden.

You will receive a casting of my work as pictured above. However as the verdigris patina solution has a natural reaction to the bronze, the verdigris patina on the sculpture you receive will differ from the hippo in the pictures.

This means that there will be differing areas/patches of colouring, but it will look essentially the same. As this is a natural verdigris patina a small amount of residue may come off on to your hands, so I recommend you wash your hands after handling.

Please make sure you have chosen the correct finish that you want from the drop down menu before placing your order as you will be sent the finish that comes through on your order.

The other finishes that you can choose from are made in a very similar way to what's described above. Each type has a different type of powder mixed in to the resin, either bronze, iron or stone to achieve the desired finish. Each type of finish requires a different amount of labour and also the cost of each type of powder varies hence why the prices are different for each type.

The finishes you see are real finishes, not paint effects. In the case of the rusty and verdigris options a patina solution is used to produce a reaction with the metal in the castings which produces the rusty or verdigris finishes.
