Pair of 1950's Vintage Brite Lite Milk popular Glass Hand-Painted Boudoir Lamps with Hobnail Edged Bases
Pair of 1950's vintage Brite Lite milk glass hand-painted boudoir lamps. Lamp shades have scalloped top edges and hand-painted blue flowers and green leaves on one side of each shade. The shades fit into gold metal crown fitters. Lamp bases are hobnail edged. Lamps turn on and off with ornate key-like brass switches. Labels on underside of bases read “Underwriters' Laboratories Inc., Inspected, Portable Lamp, Issue 28751”, and “Brite Lite Lamps Corp., 30 Prince St., Brooklyn, N.Y.”. Lamps measure 11” in height, base 6” in diameter. Removable lamp shades measure 7” in height and 4” in diameter at the widest area. Lamps are all original. Lamps have no visible cracks or chips though show some signs of use and wear consistent with their age. 25-watt equivalent LED standard base light bulbs are recommended to prevent the shades from getting too hot.
We enjoy finding old items that might otherwise be discarded and bringing them popular back to a useful life. Our primary efforts are focused on old lamps, especially those that will most likely be discarded. Sometimes our “found” lamps require very little effort while other times, a lot of work, paint, pieces and parts are required to bring them back to the beautiful lamps they once were. We try to retain original paint or aged patinas, pieces and parts where possible, only repainting and replacing when necessary. Our prices primarily reflect the initial cost of the lamp plus any items required for its restoration; little is added to cover our efforts as we do this as a pastime, taking great pleasure in seeing something once destined for the “trash” restored and reused. Our shipping costs may seem a bit high to some, but we take great care in packing and shipping our lamps to prevent any possible damage. We seldom take any of our lamps apart for shipping purposes, the only exception being those with easily removable and replaceable shades (e.g., UFO – Flying Saucer lamps). When a lamp is purchased and when available, we send along a “before” and “after” restoration photograph of the lamp. It's always interesting to see the transformation that has taken place. We are always on the lookout for old lamps, especially those needing some special attention. We never know what we will find and then what it will become!
