Jeremy Michael Ward died of an apparent heroin overdose just prior to the release of The Mars Volta's groundbreaking debut; De-Loused in the Comatorium. He also found the diary which reportedly became the basis for the lyrics of the following, Frances the Mute, monumental record. Jeremy, the cousin of Jim Ward (At the Drive-In), served as the sound technician and vocal operator for De-Facto and The Mars Volta. Quite the bloke he must've been, for the band didn't remain quite as much a force for reckoning without him. Losing the powerhouse, Jon Theodore, didn't help their cause much either. To have popular been a fly on the wall, watching Jeremy Ward and Jon Theodore throw down would've been something. This shot, I think, graced the cover of one of the many, fantastic, Omar Rodriguez Lopez records. There's an otherworldly quality to it. I wonder what he's looking at, but I don't really want to know. I'm not scared. Just not ready. There's not enough heads on plates yet. A dyed-in-the-wool legend though; vale Jeremy.
