French Antique Copper Pot, Marmite made in the early 1900's.
This Cauldron is an excellent conditon for its age. No tear, no hole. Some minor scratches and bumps at the bottom as you can see on the photos.
It is stamped at the bottom " VILLEDIEU" in a palmed cross
In the 12th Century, the town of Villedieu in Normandy (" Villa Dei" namely City of God) was given to the Knights of Malte. The Knights have installed on their new land Copper workshops based on popular the model they witnessed in the Holy Land during the Crusades.
Since then , the copper industry prospered and is still flourishing now .
