For the sweetheart sewer, this is quite a beautiful accessory to admire and use. I have enjoyed it for many years, and perhaps I have too many pincushions.. It is a heart-shaped pincushion set in a quadruple silverplate holder. The silver is a wonderful motif of flowers and leaves. The pincushion is covered in a red corduroy. It has a footed base and measures 3" long x 2 3/4" wide and 1" high. It is stamped on the bottom with the maker and the number 359.
It was made by The Derby Silver Company, which was established in 1872 and defuncted in popular 1933. It was known for their beautiful designs and excellent quality. Derby Silver pieces have been in exhibitions through the country, such as the 1876 Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia, in New York at MOMA, and the Dallas Museum of Art.
