Info:
Emil Ludwig Löhr was the son of banker August Löhr, who moved to Vienna in 1818. Here the son under Leopold Kupelwieser received his artistic training. Löhr went to Rome for further studies and turned to landscape painting under the influence of Joseph Anton Koch. Due to a persistent malaria disease, Löhr had to return to Germany from Italy in 1840.
He moved with his family to Munich. For many years he sought every summer relief of his illness in Gastein, where he painted many landscapes. In July 1849, Löhr visited Hamburg, where he attracted attention with photographs of old etchings and engravings.
