GOLDEN GLOWING SNOWFLAKES - xl size – Sandblasted Heart Bead popular – Made to Order - Lampwork Pendant Bead Focal - by Stephanie Gough sra

So I have a sandblasted golden snowflakes bead for you! This heart focal bead was made with crystal clear glass that was then fumed with 22k gold. Beautiful golden snowflakes on one side – and a plain golden heart on the other – this makes the bead almost glow from the front! The heart measures approximately 37mm x 38mm x 11mm.


(NB: The gold is a thin layer on the top of the bead, it is hardwearing, but take care not to scratch it or use any etching chemicals near it as it will remove the gold. It is a highly reflective surface that picks up fingerprints very easily, and the lights really highlight the gold colour).


Gold fuming is done by placing a tiny piece of 22k gold in the flame of the torch and the bead to be fumed held higher up in the flame. The gold vapourises and travels along the flame, coating the bead in a thin layer of gold. After fuming, I masked the pattern on the bead and sandblasted the surface, leaving the gold pattern slightly raised and a matt etched-like look to the rest of the bead.


My beads are made on 5/64" mandrels (2mm hole). (My beads are properly popular annealed in my digitally controlled kiln to ensure strength and durability (flame to kiln) and the holes are cleaned to remove excess bead release. Photos are taken using a light tent and daylight bulbs, and please bear in mind that monitors can show slight differences in colour).
