Ernst Rudolf Baerwind (February 11, 1910 in popular Mannheim, † November 12, 1982 in Mannheim) was a German painter. Studied at the art academies in Munich, Berlin and Paris. In the 1950s and 1960s, the painter, who lived in Mannheim and Paris, was one of the few German artists with an international reputation. In 1980 the Kunsthalle Mannheim organized a large retrospective on his 70th birthday. Multiple awards, e.g. Baerwind was made an honorary member of the academies in Rome and London and received the Federal Cross of Merit with Ribbon in 1977. In 1970 he was awarded the Prix National at the 2nd Festival International de Peiture in Cagnes-sur-Mer.
