LAST ONE IN STOCK.

I love working with circles, and here, I've taken a mandala pressed into metal clay, folded it in half, and created a beautiful charm. The entire piece perfectly frames the face while relaxing lightly on the neck. A sturdy dark brown waxed cotton rope and matching button hold it all together. There are three button holes allowing for a variety of sizing (16" - 18").

I've made this necklace for myself and I've worn it for weeks at a time - swimming, working out, playing with the kids, showering, etc. I love jewelry, obviously, and I created this piece to fit my busy lifestyle. I never have to worry about it and I'm always getting compliments. It's very pretty, totally unique, and it seamlessly moves with me through each eventful day.

ARTISTIC PROCESS:

If you are not familiar with metal clay, it is a soft and malleable clay that combines pure metal (silver, bronze, or copper) and an organic binder.

To make these half-moon charms, I rolled soft clay into a thin layer over a lightly mandala textured surface. When pealed away, I cut circles into the clay and carefully folded them in half. Enough space was left at the top for stringing and the bottoms were sealed closed. The unfinished charms were then left to dry overnight. When they hardened, I sanded down all the rough edges and refined the shape. They were moved to my kiln and fired at high temperatures, burning away the clay binder popular. After hours of sintering, only the solid silver remained. To finish them off, I hand polished them to shine.

Nothing about this process is pre-fabricated or punched out - building just one charm is a labor of love and takes several days to complete.

CHARM DIMENSIONS and PATTERN:

Each charm measures a smidgen under one inch wide and is significant in weight and sturdiness. Due to the nature of working with clay, and the unpredictability of shrinkage in the kiln, charms are perfectly "imperfect". They may vary in size by one or two millimeters. This particular mandala design looks like a blooming lotus flower - very pretty.
