A vintage set of Carl Art brooch and earrings (demi parure), signed and marked as sterling silver, in the retro style. I would date this demi parure to the 1940s or 1950s. This set has very sparkly paste or diamante stones of good quality, in clear and light blue colour. The blue is darker than an aquamarine colour. Some stones are brilliant cut in the brooch, and some are baguette cut – showing the quality of this set. This set has a retro design of sweeping curves, continued between the brooch and earrings.
Carl Art was founded in 1936, in Providence, Rhode Island. It was owned owned by Carl Schraysshuen, a German immigrant. They produced jewellery in Rhode Island until 1976. Carl Art jewellery is typically high quality with retro designs of ribbons and swirls. Carl Art designs are a personal favourite of mine amongst retro jewellery.
The condition is excellent, the brooch back pin is in mint condition and the brooch itself looks hardly worn. The condition of the earrings is excellent (the darker marks in the photos have now been cleaned off with a rouge cloth). The earrings have a screw back, which tend to be more comfortable than the clip design popular. The brooch ways a 5.79 grams of sterling silver, the earrings individually weigh 3.31 grams of silver. Dimension of the brooch are 3.3 cm high by 4 cm wide. The earrings are 2.2 cm high by 1.6 cm wide.
Overall a very glamorous set which oozes quality, incorporating the wonderful curves of retro design, in excellent condition.
