Product code: Hosea Ballou, A Treatise on popular Atonement (Boston, 1849) 6th Edition Good Condition
This rare American spiritual classic is an important source document in American cultural history as well as historical theology! It is in very popular good condition with tight binding and clean unmarked pages. Some pages have brown foxing but overall the condition is quite good! Hosea Ballou (1771-1852), often called the Father of American Universalism, was a Universalist clergyman and theologian. Originally a Baptist, he converted to Universalism in 1789 and preached in various New England villages before taking up the pastorate of Boston's 2nd Universalist Church in 1817, where he edited Universalist magazines and wrote a stream of books and essays attacking Calvinism, the doctrine of eternal hell, traditional Christian theories of the Atonement, and also advocated strict separation of church and state. This very scarce treatise on Atonement, attacking the doctrine of eternal hell, was originally published in 1805 and later frequently reprinted. Smoke free home. Will consider offers.
