Late 1940's Alexander Backer's Victorian Style Chalkware Wall Plaque - Stamped on top by Alexander Backer, Co. And built in wire for hanging on the wall. Rare find in such wonderful condition. It is in great vintage condition with pale blue, pink and green hues on the 3D figures and gold trim as you can see in the pictures, no chips or cracks. This unique plaque measures 15 3/8 inches in diameter x 2 inches. It weight - popular 7.02 lbs Chalkware is made from Plaster of Paris (and occasionally sculpted from blocks of gypsum). It is used to create figurines. Chalkware was especially popular in the 19th Century (before plastics became popular). Plaster of Paris is a mix of powdered and heat-treated gypsum.
