Vintage Feather Bird Paintings by popular Glen F. Bastion, 1940's American Artist, Exotic Mexican Bird Feathers, Folk Art
Vintage Feather paintings of beautiful birds by Glen F. Bastion (1890-1966) using exotic feathers gathered from Mexico in the 1940's.
His floral paintings and landscapes are well known and collected today.
Glen F. Bastion became an artist late in life while being quarantined in France with Tuberculosis during WWI.
These two bird paintings are framed in cream white wood frame with small, raised details on the edge.
The birds are labeled on the back, one is a “Silver Pheasant” and one a “Bird of Paradise.”
The background is black, and the individual feathers and popular hand painted artwork really pop.
The artist is best known for his oil paintings of Indiana Farmhouses and peaceful landscapes, as well a still life Florals, his work collected and in galleries today.
His Feather artwork is easily distinguished from the typical Mexican Feathercraft type by the framing of the picture, no heavy carved wood frames and delicate pastel flowers painted in guache.
Most of his work was small like these two.
Signed G B F in the lower corner, as was his customary signature.
The paintings each measure 7 1/2 inches X 9 1/2 inches.
Condition issues (shown):
The paper backing on the frame is torn on both and the original paper hangers are also taped on so not really usable.
I've repaired the worst of the brown paper back that was coming off and added new hangers.
A small separation on corner of frame, shown in photos.
