Oriental Rugs by John Kimberly Mvmford. Published by Charles Scribner's Sons, New York; 1900.
A history of rug-making, the people who made them, the processes by which they were produced, the differences between the rugs made in various areas. Includes index, and charts describing the various kinds of rugs.
This is a large, illustrated First Edition antique book. Illustrated with 24 colorplate and artotypes as well as 8 photo engravings. The images are quite stunning and are accompanied by a tissue page to protect the art plates. This big book is bound in it's original burgundy red cloth wrapper. The white text is rubbed and is faded on the front and spine. The spine shows some fraying along the top and bottom. There is a crack along the front board, with the first blank page and first minor title page separated from the binding. Otherwise, the binding seems to be holding all other pages in place. There are a few names and dates written on the first blank page. Otherwise, the pages seem to all be clean and free of markings. Containing 278 printed pages, including an Index. This is a large, antique book, measuring approximately 11.25” tall by 8.5” wide. The think paper and covers make this book nearly 2” thick.
