So rich in culture and welcoming in spirit, Moldova remains the poorest country in Eastern Europe. Many Moldovans struggle with the effects of poverty, inadequate healthcare, impure water and migration of 1 in 4 adults as they seek to be able to care for their families. Children are left without parents, and those who leave are susceptible to human trafficking. Orphanages, prisons, and institutions are filled while the minimum wage is about 60 cents per hour. The Salvation Army serves on the front lines bringing about change through their empowering programs and projects.
