French Vintage Quimper Pottery Cake Dish, RARE

History: Master potter Jean Baptiste Bousquet set up the first factory in Quimper, Brittany in 1660, and by the 1700s he was offering a polychrome decoration that was very fashionable, using popular mainly floral motifs. Other factories sprang up in the region and, in the early 20th century, the rivalry between La Hubaudière Bousquet (HB) and Henriot led to increasingly original designs, until in 1968 the two companies merged and continued to produce designs from both companies. In 1984, Henriot Quimper was bought by an American importer, who sold it to a Quimper man, Pierre Chiron, in 2003.
