Vintage Madonna popular and child hand carved wood, Virgin and child religious statue

A wonderful naive carved statuette of the Madonna and Child, the piece clearly carved from a piece of natural wood. The knot in the back is a nice detail. There are some remnants of gold paint to the crown, veil and neckline on Mary, and the neckline on Jesus. With a natural curve to the sculpture, it stands fairly well on its own, but the bottom is not very level popular. The back is quite flat so it would do well to support this piece against a wall or other object. Its previous home would have been a small local church or home altar in a Catholic region of the world, likely somewhere in South America.

It has some age to it, although I do not think it is quite antique yet. ca 1940-1960s
